STATEMENT OF FAITH AND COVENANT
OF FAITH BAPTIST CHURCH
Section 1 - Statement of Faith
1. All Scripture is divinely inspired by God, inerrant, infallible, and the FINAL
RULE for Faith and Practice preserved in the King James Bible for English
speaking people. II Tim. 3:16; II Peter 1:21; Ps. 119:89, 160.
2. One God eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Matt. 3:16, 17; II Cor. 13:14; I Jn. 5:7.
3. Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and is
true God and true man. Isa. 7:14, 9:6; Matt. 1:18-25; Jn. 1:1, 14.
4. Man was created in the image of God; man sinned; and thereby incurred not
only physical death, but also that spiritual death which is separation from God;
and all human beings are born with a sinful nature, thereby requiring a “new
birth” experience in order to go to Heaven. Gen. 1:26, 27; 2:16, 17; 3:22-24;
Rom. 3:21-28, 5:12, 6:23; Jn. 3:3-7.
5. Christ died for our sins as a substitutionary sacrifice, and all who believe in
Him are justified by His shed blood. Jn. 3:16; Rom. 5:1, 6-9; I Tim. 2:5, 6.
6. The crucified body of our Lord was resurrected from the dead. He ascended
into Heaven and is our Intercessor. Matt. 28:6; I Cor. 15:4; Acts 1:9-11; Rom.
8:34; Heb. 7:25; I Tim. 2:5.
7. The personal, pre-millenial return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is
imminent. Jn. 14:3; Acts 1:11; I Thes. 4:13-5:9; Rev. 19:11-21; 20:4-6; 22:7,
12, 20.
8. All who repent of their sin toward God and receive by faith the Lord Jesus
Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit, and become the children of God.
Acts 20:21; Jn. 3:3, 5; Jn. 1:12; II Pet. 3:9; I Thes. 1:9; Acts 26:18-20.
9. That Salvation is by grace through faith. No work of man, whether baptism
or any other religious work, adds or aids in securing favor with God for
salvation. Eph. 2:8, 9; Isa. 64:6; Rom. 3:21-28, 4:1-5, 8:8, 11:6; Jn. 6:28,
29.
10. All believers are baptized at salvation by the Holy Spirit into the body of
Christ and set apart to service and a Holy walk. I cor. 12:1-27; Titus 2:11-15;
I Cor. 6:19-21; Eph. 2:10.
11. All true believers, having been born again into the family of God, are
possessors of everlasting life, sealed by the Holy Spirit unto the day of
redemption, shall never perish, and are eternally secure in Him. Jn. 10:27-
30; 5:24; 6:37; Eph. 1:13, 14; 4:30; I Pet. 1:23.
12. The bodily resurrection of the just and unjust, the everlasting conscious
blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting punishment of the lost is
certain. I Thes. 4:13-18; Rev. 20:11-15; Jn. 5:28, 29.
13. Immersion is the only Scriptural mode of baptism and is for believers only.
Rom. 6:3, 4; Acts 8:36, 38; Matt. 28:19, 20.
14. The Lord’s Supper is a commemoration of His death until He comes.
Luke 22:17-20; I Cor. 11:23-26.
Section 2 - Church Covenant
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God1 to receive the Lord Jesus
Christ as our Savior,2 and on the profession of our faith,3 having been baptized in
the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost,4 we do now in the
presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter
into covenant5 with one another, as one body in Christ.6
We engage therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit,7 to walk together in Christian
love;8 to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge;9 holiness,10 and
comfort11 to promote its prosperity and spirituality,12 to sustain its worship,13
ordinances,14 discipline15 and doctrines;16 to give it a sacred preeminence over all
institutions of human origin; to contribute cheerfully and regularly17 to the support
of the ministry,18 the expenses of the church,19 the relief of the poor,20 and the
spread of the gospel through all nations.21
We also engage to maintain family22 and private23 devotions; to religiously
educate our children;24 to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances;25
to walk circumspectly in the world;26 to be just in our dealings;27 faithful in our
engagements;28 and exemplary in our deportment;29 to avoid all tattling,30
backbiting,31 and excessive anger,32 to abstain from the sale and use of
intoxicating drinks as a beverage,33 to abstain from the sale and use of mind
altering drugs except for prescribed medical use,34 to be zealous in our efforts to
advance the kingdom of our Savior.35
We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love;36 to remember
each other in sickness and distress;37 to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling38
and courtesy in speech;39 to be slow to take offense40 but always ready for
reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.41
We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will as soon as
possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this
covenant and the principles of God’s Word.42
